Academic and research work may require the use of computers with a high data processing, storage and memory capacity, and to meet this need, FGV provides its researchers, professors and students at its Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Federal District sites with high-performance computing infrastructure. The shared system, called the Academic Cloud, can be dynamically configured in line with a wide variety of demands.
FGV’s Academic Cloud is based on the same technology used by companies such as Amazon and Microsoft to offer services to let their customers quickly assign (and reassign when necessary) ICT infrastructure resources to meet their business needs. These resources are normally offered in the form of “virtual machines” or “virtual servers.” Based on these same concepts and resources, FGV’s researchers, professors and students can use “virtual machines” configured in line with their academic research needs, for as long as their research lasts.
